ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD

“All The Time In The World” by Tony Lloyd

2 February- 10 March 2012

‘An image of a road must always imply all the places it leads to and from, with all the divergent possibilities. It embodies not just the past, the present, and the future but also, all the possible pasts, presents, and futures.’ - Tony Lloyd.

The Cat Street Gallery presents “All The Time In The World” by Tony Lloyd, his first solo show in Asia.  Lloyd’s dramatic realist paintings present the world to us in all its vast splendour.

Lloyd tends to paint from photographs that he has taken, but also uses found images, usually taken from photography books found in second hand stores and is drawn to pictures that are difficult to locate at a point in time.  He only chooses images that he feels will be improved by being translated into paint, but the images themselves vary from enigmatic scenes, to flora, fauna and mountain landscapes.  One of the reasons he chooses to work monochromatically is to bring cohesion to this diverse range of imagery.

Lloyd is obsessed with painting mountains and roads.   Mountains’ vast, overwhelming scale inspire and defy people’s sense of space whilst simultaneously representing millions of years of changes to the Earth’s crust.  Roads again because of the scale, can seem to go on forever.  Both subjects are an articulation of space and time.

The Cat Street Gallery opened in 2006 and exhibits international and local contemporary practices with an edge and sparkle.
