Practical information for fashion start ups is hard to find. Large groups usually have the resources to get some in-house expertise on the matter but that is rarely the case for small, young labels and independent designers.
These are my tips for soon-to-be-bloggers:
1. Know your target market and adjust your marketing and language accordingly
2. Schedule postings and use analytics: for most start ups the analytics side isn't really exciting but analytics tells a lot about what your followers like to read and their online behaviour.
3. Use visuals and strong images: generally people respond better on images than text only
4. Take it serious: social media is not a short-time investment. It is labour intensive and the return is not instantly
5. Collaborate with others individuals or companies to increase your online exposure
6. Mention other people in your blog and include their weblinks
7. Social media is a great additional marketing channel but it should be part of your marketing strategy and not the objective
8. Avoid 'followers' acquisition: it's about quality and not quantity. Having a lot of followers is no guarantee that they will pay for your services
9. There is more than Facebook: about 70% people visit websites first to find out what your business does so develop a simple blog or website
10. Be positive: people prefer to follow positive bloggers. Of course you can be critical but making positive comments and constructive remarks are more effective
